		<description>Just over 5 years ago I gave a presentation on Extreme Programming at a local university that was hosting a software engineering conference with students from across Canada. At the end of my talk there were the usual questions, but one floored me. It was along the lines of: &quot;This process sounds very heavyweight to me.&quot; After I recovered from my jaw hitting the ground, I realized that the student had no previous experience with the types of processes that XP and other Agile methods were created to counter. I guess it would be a good thing if in 20-25 years people are coming up with new lightweight processes that actually work instead of presciptive, heavyweight ones like Scrum, XP and Kanban. :)</description>

Very interesting points.  I have 2 Millennial daughters and they are so much like what you describe.  It will be interesting to see them hit the workforce and watch how it might be different for them.  They hear me talk about Scrum and it is like they think - &quot;well of course it should be done that way!&quot;

I laugh because one of our girls even has an attitude that seems to say &quot;excuse me, you&#039;re in the way and I am trying to save the world here!&quot;  I guess this is a good thing, right? :)

		<description>Sometimes I wonder about the highly touted fast task switching of this generation (if that&#039;s what it is, communicating with 100 people semi-instantaneously).  It&#039;s positively unnerving to converse with someone who is texting at the same time, eyes glued to the screen.  I throttle the impulse to correct her manners.  Is she really listening to anyone?  Or is she just skimming?  

We believe that the brain is inefficient at multitasking serious work, too much lost in switching time.  But maybe what they&#039;re doing is like paying attention outdoors - our native environment - aware of it all, all the time.  Immersed, mostly relying on reflexes, focusing on anything that moves.</description>
